At Planting S.E.E.D.S., we’re continuing to grow and expand our reach every day. From new projects to new team members, exciting and meaningful partnerships are on the horizon. As a firm that’s less than a year old, Planting S.E.E.D.S. has wasted no time in making sure we’re actively working to stay committed to our mission. To remain transparent and involved with the community, we are offering you a close look at some of our most important projects and partnerships that are taking place this month. Take a look and sound off in the comments to let us know what you are most excited to see from our projects and partnerships!
Welcome to the team
We’re thrilled to have new members join us in every capacity. The larger our family, the bigger our impact. Over the past two months, we have welcomed two new team members. They are already hard at work and we’re excited to see what they accomplish. We currently have an opening for a Grant Research Intern. Click here to learn more about the position.

Partnerships
CityBridge
Who: CityBridge is a nonprofit organization that offers a 3-tier program to support education leaders and entrepreneurs in their efforts to build an educational system in DC that provides students with equitable chances at achieving academic success.
What: Planting S.E.E.D.S. is partnering with CityBridge to address two issues plaguing DC Public school education: 1.) discipline disproportionality among Black girls, and 2.) teacher bias.
Projects
Program: Targeted Networks
Initiative: Through Targeted Networks, we are working to create The Student Coalition for Anti-Racism (SCAR). SCAR will bring together a student alliance that will work with us to develop educators and leaders to ensure their practices and mindsets are rooted in equity and empathy. The desired outcome is for BIPOC students to be able to show up to school as their authentic selves so they can feel less alienated as a result of teachers using an anti-racist lens in their practice.
Program: Design Fellowship (Tier 2)
Initiative: Through the Design Fellowship we are working to create and run the Student/Educator Collective (SEC). The SEC offers Black girls an opportunity to build community, strengthen their sense of belonging to their school, and participate in policy recommendations. The goal of this program is to decrease how often Black girls are excluded from school in order to promote their social, emotional, behavioral, and academic success.
Research
Who: Research Specialist, Jennifer Toure
What: Jennifer is leading a Needs-based Assessment to determine what DC public schools need in order to decrease discipline disproportionality among Black students.
Summary of Project: Planting S.E.E.D.S. aims to explore the root (historical, systemic, individual) causes of discipline disproportionality in DC, the schools in which we see Black students being disciplined most, what's already in place, and what’s needed to overcome discipline disproportionality.
Current Events
It’s essential to stay up to date with what’s occurring in the world. This article is a reminder of the critical work we’re doing at Planting S.E.E.D.S. and is proof that there is still much more to be done. We’re hopeful that justice will be served and the young girl can have closure from this situation.
